The Weekender
October 3
Load Your OMNY Card Right Now. Yes, You.
Due to system upgrades, you will not be able to buy or load OMNY Cards this weekend starting 10:00pm tonight. Tapping at turnstiles or buses will not be affected.
The 50th Atlantic Antic is Sunday
Noon to 6:00pm from Hicks to 4th Ave, more than 300 vendors with live music, local food, vintage and handmade goods, and etcetera for all ages. Looks like it’s going to be perfect weather, with highs around 80 degrees and sunny. Must come through.
Your car will get extremely towed on Saturday night if it’s on Atlantic.
Government Shutdown
The Port Authority is self-funding so area airports and train stations will be open, but lots of FAA and TSA will be working unpaid until the shutdown is over. Expect lots of sick days to be taken and consequent delays. I also wouldn’t schedule activities centered around one of the local National Parks this weekend.
Fun Stuff
18-course omakase at Taiki for $100 per head at the bar on Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday. A steal.
The Black Bull, the new pub from Vanessa of the dearly departed Floyd, just might be opening their doors for the first time this weekend at 97 Atlantic. Up the Toon, etc.
Taylor Swift release party at the Alamo this weekend. Counterprogramming is available for Dads in the form of theatrical showings of Goldeneye down the hall.
Some big names at Eastville Comedy this weekend.
Maria Bamford is doing four shows at the Bellhouse. Taping a new special?
For people with a type: Planted Cafe over on Smith is having a Cougars and Cubs speed dating event on October 9.
Lots of cool DIY classes upcoming at NYC Resistor. Lockpicking is unfortunately sold out.
Transit Stuff
The 2,3,Q, and G will be running with reduced service Saturday and Sunday with trains “every 10 minutes.” I personally would not bet on seeing these trains every 10 minutes.
No F train between Church Ave and Coney Island from Saturday at midnight to Monday morning.
For the Bushwick-bound, the M will be totally suspended from Saturday at 3:45am until Sunday at 10:00pm.
The D is running local from 36th to Dekalb.
The N is running local from 59th to Dekalb.
Stray Observations
The Gowanus Rivera has arrived. Stroller moms, WFH warriors, lines out the doors of coffee shops. Better hurry on that additional CSO station.
