The Weekender
August 15
Fun Stuff:
Pacific Street Block Party on 8/16 between Smith and Boerum Place. Street will be closed.
Krishna Janmastami 2025 on, you guessed it, Schermerhorn between Bond and Nevins on 8/16. 3-midnight.
The team behind the dearly departed Floyd have found a new space at 97 Atlantic (space recently occupied by Bohemian Bar) and will be opening in the near future. Up the Toon, cheers to neighborhood bars.
Kid Stuff:
The NY Transit Museum has two more sessions of Transit Tots this summer, on 8/14 and 8/28.
Applications are now also open for Subway Sleuths, a 10-week after-school program for students with autism. Good programs, good museum.
Happy Hours:
The usual:
Grand Army Bar, Saturday and Sunday, 2-4.
Someday Bar, Friday 4-7.
Hollow Nickel, from open until 7.
Transit Alert: 4/5/6 Outages
During weekend evenings (11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday) both August 15-18 and 22-25, there will be no 4 or 6 service south of Grand Central-42 St and no 5 service south of E 180 St due to track replacement.
Per the MTA for August 15-18 and 22-25:
4 trains won't run between Grand Central-42 St and Crown Hts-Utica Av or New Lots Av.
4 trains will run local between Woodlawn and 42 St-Grand Central.
5 trains won't run between E 180 St and Bowling Green.
5 trains will run between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.
The 2/3 will be your best bet, assuming there are no more marquee collapses.
Civic Stuff:
Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon’s staff will be holding constituent service walk-in hours at the Pacific Branch Library on 4th Ave. They’ll be in the basement meeting room from 1:00 - 5:00 PM on upcoming Wednesdays (August 20, 27, and September 3). And yes, there are plans to renovate that branch so I saved you a trip to complain.
The conglomerate on the hook for a bunch of affordable housing around Barclays is still junk in multiple ways.
Bummer:
Days are numbered for the domino game on Pacific.
