The Week
November 24
Fun Stuff
If you’re still scrambling for Thanksgiving grub, check the last few bulletins for specific restaurant recs. But if you’re the type to wait this long, yet still won’t just order pizza, I have the answer you seek: take the N to 8th ave and get some peking duck in Sunset Park.
A few seats left for Planes, Trains, & Automobiles at the Alamo on Thanksgiving.
The Nets are playing the Knicks (expensive) Monday night and the Sixers (cheap) on Friday.
Liberty season tickets on sale, 22 home games and lots of in-stadium discounts and benefits. Ellie remains America’s most rachet mascot (complimentary).
The Transit Museum has solid gifts for the train people in your life.
The Brooklyn Botantical Garden lights are up this week, you can go Wednesday before it gets super crowded post-Thankgiving.
Civic Stuff
Channel your inner vigilante this holiday season: DSNY has two bounty programs that reward New Yorkers who report illegal dumping. The Illegal Dumping Award Program requires an affidavit and/or video of the act, and witnesses may have to appear in court. The Illegal Dumping Tip Program allows you to anonymously report via 311.
Kinda funny, extremely-Brooklyn drama at Center for Fiction. Though it sure can be frustrating when a space intended for a purpose, say an expensive gym, seems to function largely as a WeWork.
Donate food for those in need at Next Step Community Church always; donate toys at Brooklyn Museum through December 5th.
Transit Stuff
On Thanksgiving the subway will operate on the Sunday schedule citywide. To prevent overcrowding, some subway station entrances and exits along the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route will be closed. The A and C trains won’t stop at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and the F won’t stop at 57 St from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Buses will also operate on a Sunday schedule for Thanksgiving. If you have to take a bus in Manhattan on Thursday morning, God bless you.
On Friday, November 28 buses will still be on a reduced schedule. Most routes will be running less frequently.
Metro North and LIRR have special schedules. TL;DR, plan all your transit well ahead of time, no matter how routine it is.
