Neighborhood Stuff
The Boerum Bulletin Classifieds beta version is officially live. Every listing on these classifieds will be within a few blocks of where you are sitting, and listed by one of your actual neighbors. No spam, no scams, and no junk. Inventory is currently pretty light—please list some stuff, it’s free! Featured listing: a parking spot for rent in a gated lot with 24-hour security.
Thanks for the design inspo Craig Newmark
Jackie over at Read the Grand Army Gazette is launching The Whisper Network. Find reader-submitted apartments before they hit StreetEasy.
The 2026 AAPI Night Market is being held Wednesday at Barclays, and is free and open to the public. The Liberty and Taiwanese legend Rene Liu round out the week at our local arena.
Valuations at that address have been on my mind since writing about the Liberty last week. The naming rights for the arena were a 20 year deal at $10 million per (the deal started as a cold call), and the rights expire summer 2033. Uniqlo recently paid $125 million in an attempt to get Angelinos to say “Uniqlo Field at Dodgers Stadium” for a mere 5 years. Hope Barclays is adjusting their budget accordingly, or at least hope the MTA kept all the old Atlantic Ave/Pacific Street signs.
Neat: The Boerum Bulletin was featured in Kyle Chayka’s column in The New Yorker that discussed local newsletters and the variety of needs they can fill.
Fun Stuff
You better get outside today and Tuesday.
Mario Kart Tournament Comedy Show on Thursday night at Eastville Comedy. What does that mean? 16 players, one winner walks away with $250. Comics roast all parties during the proceedings. Doors at 7:30.
Stargazing down at Pier 1 on Wednesday (rain date May 27) with the Amateur Astronomers Association. Volunteers will set up high-power telescopes for viewing the moon, stars and planets. Good event for Dads to pretend like they’re just going for the kids.
The Roulette 2026 Gala is this Tuesday. Honoring the The Robert Ashley Band, most of whom will be in attendance and reunited for the first time in decades. All guests enjoy hors d’oeuvres and dessert, an open bar, and champagne toast. More expensive tickets get more stuff as per tradition.

The Dodge YMCA’s annual fundraiser is Wednesday from 6:30-9:30 PM at 501 Union Street (between Bond and the canal).

Civic Stuff

The new jail topped out (no more vertical construction) a few weeks ago . Construction is still expected to run through 2029, but work should becoming increasingly internal to the building as the project proceeds. The 30,000 square foot space on the ground floor will house community based organization(s). CM Restler’s office will be soliciting feedback in the near future for the best uses of this space. Maybe they should list it in the classifieds.
The full board meeting of our local Community Board is Wednesday, 6:00 PM at the Brooklyn Public Library branch at 286 Cadman Plaza West. Agenda is here.
Transit Stuff
The Times has live updates on the LIRR strike.
MTA still silent re: any changes to the G train maintenance schedule/summer shutdowns despite public outcry. This leads me to believe that the tunnel under Newtown Creek is in really bad shape.

The naming rights for the Frank Gehry-designed Barclays Center were announced as $15M/year (and reported, unsourced, at $20M/year), but the deal was revised after developer Bruce Ratner traded in Gehry's arena for a smaller, cheaper version.
Those $10M/year naming rights — yes, clearly under-market today —were never counted as a public giveaway, but of course they're very valuable to the arena operator.
When the deadline comes, if Barclays doesn't renew, another company surely will bite, and the fees from that will help pay for revised signage.
My take: the public should get a cut:
