The Week
January 20 (Short Week Edition)
Neighborhood Stuff
After trying most of them I think the only dry cleaner in the area that still does any work on premises is Cobble Hill Cleaning and Laundry A bit of a stroll but worth it to not have dropping clothes off feel like shooting dice. Free delivery, and a good excuse to pop into Staubitz.
The condo building over on Bergen (called…Bergen) is finished and units are on the market. The common spaces are reminiscent of Arrakis?
The neighborhood record of $3.4 million for a brownstone in October was shattered by a $5.7 million sale in December. No other neighborhood in the city added more housing than Downtown Brooklyn, and increased attention on the area was inevitable. This isn’t even accounting for the recently announced 395 Flatbush and 144 St. Felix developments.
If you have tile like this, please don’t let anyone glue quartzite on top of it.
Fun Stuff
Nets host the Celtics this week, and Disney on Ice all next week at Barclays.
Synth night at NYC Resistor on Thursday
Del Water Gap and “Emo Night Brooklyn Presents: Long Live Emo Fest” at the Paramount this week. Real ones know Bushwick Emo Nite has been doing it for years, for love of the game. Always fun, always free.
Shouts for Granada Wines and Bedouin Tent in today’s Feed Me. This is perfect weather to dive in for a merguez as you catch a whiff of fresh pita while cursing the wind.
Civic Stuff
Local City Council Member Restler has been named as the Chair of the Contracts Committee by the new Council President. The committee’s purview includes oversight of the Procurement Policy Board, review of city procurement policies and procedures, the Mayor's Office of Contract Services and etcetera.
Representative Nydia Velázquez endorsed Borough President Antonio Reynoso to replace her in the 7th Congressional District. While making him the presumptive favorite for the seat and causing some internecine eyebrow-raising, a Reynoso victory would create another vacancy and require a special election.
BP Reynoso’s office is presenting an Inside Brooklyn’s Community Boards information session at the Center for Brooklyn History on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30pm. Brad Lander, running for the 10th district seat currently occupied by Dan Goldman, will be a panelist.
3K and Pre-K applications are open for all families with children born in 2022 and 2023. Families can apply online at MySchools.nyc, call 718-935-2009, or visit a Family Welcome Center. The application deadline is February 27.
Tonight: Good Cause Eviction Info Session: learn more about the recently passed landmark Good Cause Eviction law with author of the bill State Senator Julia Salazar on zoom at 6:00 PM.
Transit Stuff
The 3 is suspended for tonight starting at 10:30, replaced locally by the 4 between Atlantic and New Lots.
This weekend neither the A nor C will be stopping between West 4th and Jay Street/Metro Tech. They’ll be running express via the F line so could be convenient for some of you.
Saturday and Sunday the Q is every 10 minutes and the N and R are running on the Q line from Dekalb to Canal.
