The Week
January 12
Neighborhood Stuff
Can officially confirm that the omakase at Sushi Koju in the Ace Hotel is excellent. Not a ranked list guy but I bet it is one of the best in the city, especially at that price point. Shoutout to Executive Chef Kevin who was behind the counter. Note: if there is a DJ going in the lobby, it will be loud in there. If that doesn’t sound ideal, target a weeknight.
East River Air Cargo Delivery Drone Pilot
Starting Friday the 9th and running through Friday the 23rd the NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and Skyports Drone Services are conducting a test of small cargo delivery drones between Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. I’m sure everything will go fine and no one will be mad.
Borough-based jail report is out. TL;DR, the facility on Atlantic still has a target completion date of…2029. I’m sure the construction traffic won’t interfere with whatever the BQE repairs end up looking like. The BQE, we’ve been assured, is “safe” until…2029.
Fun Stuff
Twilight Saga movie parties, episodes of Twin Peaks, and some modern classics at the Alamo Drafthouse in addition to the first run stuff.
Nets host the Bulls at Barclays.
Stand up and improv at The Bellhouse.
Laser cutter and soldering lessons at NYC Resistor.
NFL playoffs are cooking and NCAA championship is next Monday. Good spots in the neighborhood to catch a game: El Zason, GolfZon ($5 domestic drafts), The Brazen Head, O’Keefe’s over on Court, and Black Forest’s Fort Greene location.
Civic Stuff
Good Cause Eviction Info Session: CM Restler’s office will be hosting an informational session on January 20 at 6PM on Zoom for tenants to learn about the 2024 law and their rights. RSVP.
The Brooklyn Library and the Borough President’s office are presenting Democracy on Your Block: Inside Brooklyn’s Community Boards at the Center for Brooklyn History over on Clinton and Pierrpont. Moderator is Jeffery C. Mays (New York Times), and panelists include Brad Lander, Josephine Beckmann, Naomi N. Hopkins, and Ethan Norville. Will this be a de facto campaign event for some people? Maybe!
Speaking of, 2026 Brooklyn Community Board Applications Are Open!
Apply by February 6. The BKCD2 board serves Downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Fulton Ferry, DUMBO, Vinegar Hill, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Transit Stuff
The Brooklyn bound D is skipping Dekalb overnight Monday-Thursday. Friday-Tuesday, the overnight Manhattan bound D is running express from 36th to Atlantic, and is skipping Dekalb.
Friday-Tuesday starting at 9:00pm, the G won’t run between Bedford-Nostrand and Church.
Friday-Tuesday overnight there will be no 4 between Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall and Crown Heights/Utica-New Lots.

Great roundup as always. That drone delivery route crossing the East River is wild timing given how much infrastructure work is already planned around here. I tried Sushi Koju last month and can second the quality at that price point, tho the weeknight tip is clutch becuz the lobby vibe can get overwhelming when theres events going on. The 2029 timeline for both the jail and BQE work overlapping feels like peak Brooklyn planning.
Was the DJ any good? Also, I wonder if the drones will be subject to congestion pricing.
